In 1960 in Ulan-Ude was opened librarian institute, the third in Russian Federation. There was created department of special disciplines headed by the docent of LSIC named after N.K. Krupskaya, I.A. Mohov. Next year the department of library study was seperated, now headed by N.S. Kartoshov, now doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor of Moscow State University of Culture and Arts. Today the department has two specialities:"Psychology of librarian informative work and "Sociology of children's and teenager's reading".
The staff of teachers and workers of the department includes graduates of LSIC and MSIC - practical workers of the Republic library named after M.Gorkiy: Kreidenko V.S., Zabashta N.I., Novikova G.A., Filkina Z.I., Mityuk R.I., Vereshagina z.P. From 1965 till 1975 гг. the staff of the department was renewed, on the whole, by young specialists who graduated from LSIC and MSIC: Avraeva Yu. B., Azheyeva R.B., Baranov O.A., Kazantseva N.M., Olzoyeva G.K., Solodkova G.S. First graduates of ESSIC - Bushanova A.F., Gaponenko V.V., Ezova S.A., Matheyeva T.V., Munkoeya L.V., Chernova L.V. Young specialists joined the pedagogical staff, graduates of last year: Nemchikova Т.А., Dementieva V.V., Rinchinova Yu. S. In different years the department was headed by N.S. Kartoshov, V.S. Kreidenko (now doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor of St. Petersburg Academy of Culture and Arts), chief teacher O.A. Baranov, candidate of pedagogical sciences, docent E.N. Burlova, candidate of pedagogical sciences, docent G.K. Olzoyeva. About 15 years (with some leaves) the department was headed by the candidate of pedagogical sciences S.A. Ezova, the first graduate who defended candidate's dissertation at LSIC named after N.K. Krupskaya. Today the department is headed by the candidate of pedagogical sciences, docent G.K. Olzoyeva.
Basic directions of the scientific work of the department:
The department is in close close contact with the libraries of the region on holding of joint scientific researches, enhancing of qualification of the staff, holding joint scientific practical conferences. Recently 3 scientific selections were prepared by the departments: 1.Librarian staff: ways of perfection of professional and socio-psychological competence: Data of the regional scientific and practical conference -Ulan-Ude: Publisher's edition Poligraphy Complex of ESSACA, 1998. -123 p.; 2. Psychology and sociology of librarian information work and training of librarian staff: Data of regional scientific and practical conference -Ulan-Ude, 2002. Teachers of the department are actively published in authority editions - magazines "Library study", "Library", "Scientific and technical libraries", in scientific selections of MSUCA, and other highter educational institutions of Culture.
Members of the department of library study participate in international, Russian and regional conferences.
The department is a curricular methodical center for the libraries of Eastern Siberia.
There have been 42 graduate years of librarians of higher qualification. Correspondence form of tuition is used in the branches of ESSACA, Republic of Yakutia (Saha), Tiva, Irkutsk and Chita regions.Many graduates became candidates, doctors of sciences, docents, professors who work as teachers in the cultural higher educational institutions of Siberia and Far East and countries of CNN.
Development of librarian work of East Siberia, Far North is done by the graduates of the department. They are in charge of many leading libraries of the subjects of RF, institutional, town and village centralized library systems.
At the department - the new topic is being developed: «Library communication: traditions 41 innovations». Scientific adviser, candidate of pedagogical sciences, professor, academician S.A. Ezova, leading specialist in this sphere. In its framework in 2005 international practical conference is held.
The department is aimed at training specialists capable to work in a new information space, under the changed socio-economical conditions.
