November 1 1961 the department of Maxism Leninism was opened. At the department there worked room of Maxism Leninism which had a library with scientific, methodical literature, curricular demonstrative manuals. At the department there worked the room of Marxim-leninism, where the library had scientific, methodic literature, curricular demonstrative manuals. Here there were consultations organized, exhibitions of demonstrative manuals, newest literature and etc.
At the department of Marxism-leninism the following disciplines were taught: History of CPSU, History of USSR, philosophy, political economy, basics of scientific communism, history of foreign countries, basic of industries, basics of scientific atheism, Marxist-leninist ethsetics.
In 1997 the department of Marxism-leninism was divided into 2 departments: department of history of CPSU, department of philosophy, polieconomy and scientific communism. At the department of history of CPSU there only historical disciplines left.
The members of the department of history throughout all the time of its existence defended 3 doctor's and 11 candidate's dissertations, the postgraduate courses of the department were passed by about 20 persons.
The heads of the department of history were: Batueva B.B. –doctor of historical sciences, professor (1961-1990), Bazarov B.B. - doctor of historical sciences, professor (from 2003) – doctor of historical sciences, professor(1991-1992), Orlov L.G. – candidate of historical sciences, docent (1993-1998), Kuras L.V. – doctor of historical sciences, professor (1998-2003), Batueva I.B. – doctor of historical sciences, professor (from 2003)
In 2005 at the department there was created scientific reasearch laboratory named after doctor of historical sciences, professor B.B. Batueva. On the basis of it, the teachers of the department do work in the following basic directions:
1. History and culture of the peoples of East Siberia in pre-revolutionary period;
2. History and culture of Russia, Siberia, Buryatia in the 20-th century.
The teachers of the department corporate with higher educational and scientific institutions, work as supporters and opponents of candidate's, doctor's dissertations.
At the department there work different students' circles, in the framework of which scientific practical conferences and Olympiads are held.
The teachers of the department do scientific research work, issue monographs, curricular methodical manuals and etc.
